Anne Bonney was born in County Cork, Ireland, though she came to America when her father decided to move to Carolina. Her father was a wealthy lawyer, and her mom was a servant in his household. Anne was a bit of a wild child. She wasn't happy living in Carolina, and so she ran off with a sailor to Jamaica. She found the pirates that came ashore to be far more interesting than her sailor, and so she left him to hang around the pirates. Soon she fell in love with Jack Rackham, and joined him on his ship.

Anne became a very good pirate, and fought as well as any other crewman. She started to get tired of Jack, though, because he did more drinking than fighting. And so when a young man named Mark Read came aboard, they became friends and she found herself fancying him. She was in for a surpirse, though, because Mark was really a woman named Mary! They stayed good friends, and fought many pirate battles together, until their last battle when Jack's ship was captured. It is said that Mary and Anne fought very bravely, but were quite outnumbered as most of the crewmen, including Captain Jack were stone drunk!

All of the crewmen were tried for piracy and were scheduled to be hanged, but Anne and Mary 'pleaded their bellies', meaning they were both expecting babies! Anne went to prison, but after that it's not known what happened to her.
